Title: IT Support Technician
Reports to: IT Manager
Position Type: Full Time
Pay: Determined by Qualifications
Location: Sydney, NS (Travel over the Atlantic Provinces as required)

Position Summary

As an IT Support Technician, you will play an active role in the installation and servicing of our client partner needs and always ensure the best possible solution is delivered.  These individuals own the work they do and must see it delivered from start to finish. These individuals use their range of knowledge and customer communication skills to quickly deliver our products and services to ensure the job is done correctly the first time. These individuals play not only a customer advocate role but also a sales role by ensuring any gaps are captured and supplied to our sales group. They have a deep attention to detail as to guarantee that all site protocols and health and safety standards are followed and can deal with the growing demand for our products and services.

 

Responsibilities

– Setup, configure and manage computer systems
– Maintain User Accounts and setup new workstations
– Maintain Systems protection software packages
– Replacement and installation of hardware components and peripherals
– Document changes to hardware and software
– Maintain service logs and work orders
– Site audits for licenses and warranties
– Monitor various servers for security and storage requirements
– Monitor maintenance service contracts and agreements
– Remote support and management via our Management software
– 2 years working in an IT support environment
– Proven Oral and Written communication skills and Client Interaction
– Install, configure and support Camera’s and recorders

IT:

  • – Setup Servers, Network Equipment and Firewalls

  • – Site audits for licenses and warranties

Tech:

  • Install Basic DSC, Honeywell and Home Automation Panels
  • Install and configure IP Camera and Analog Cameras (Axis, Northern, Hikvision, Panasonic)
  • Install and configure Kantech Access control systems
  • Understanding of camera technologies and advancements in industry
  • Cabling utilizing Ethernet, Fiber, Coax or wireless antenna cabling systems
  • Termination experience
  • Experience with Fluke testers and termination equipment
  • Experience with Fiber Cleaving tools

Must Possess the Following:

Key Duties/Responsibilities

Site Preparation/Installations

  • Attend clients’ sites to install, maintain or repair all company systems including video monitoring systems.
  • Check to ensure all systems are online when attending a site, noting any malfunctions and notifying their direct Supervisor and/or Director of Field Operations of all issues.
  • Document and maintain accurate records of all work performed on a site and submit reports at the end of the work day as required
  • Work with the Monitoring Centre to ensure the best camera sight lines, cameras are correctly focused and alarms are properly set up on a site
  • Knowledgeable and adheres to all company policies, procedures, protocols and Health and Safety requirements

 

Office/Warehouse Management

  • Perform warehouse duties as assigned, including assisting with camera preparation.

 

Equipment Management/Maintenance

  • Maintain and repair all equipment as needed to guarantee that it is working as required
  • Ensure company vehicles are kept in good working condition and notify their direct Supervisor and/or the Director of Field Operations of any deficiencies.
  • Ensure sufficient equipment is in the vehicle to complete assigned daily tasks as well as carry out any other maintenance or repair issues that arise while on a site.
  • Ensure daily vehicle and boom assembly safety checks are performed and recorded.

 

Ad-Hoc Work

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  1. EDUCATION

Required:

  • Post secondary education in a technology related field with an emphasis on computer/IT skills.
  1. EXPERIENCE

Preferred:

  • Previous experience as a Bell, Rogers, Eastlink Technician or camera installer would be a definite asset
  • Journeyman Electrician with IT experience
  • Completion of a security manufacturers certified training program would be an asset
  • Certification in Cabling, Lift operations and fall Arrest an asset
  1. CORE COMPETENCIES
  • Excellent physical condition as the job requires lifting of equipment overhead weighing upwards of 70 lbs.
  • No fear of heights to operate a bucket truck to conduct installations
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with internal and external parties
  • The ability to troubleshoot CCTV analog/IP systems.
  • A valid Nova Scotia driver’s license, a police background check and child abuse record check
  • The ability to work independently and to prepare all necessary documentation in a timely and accurate manner
  • A good knowledge and adherence to site protocols and Health and Safety policies and practice
  • Self-motivated and committed to continuous learning
  • Can handle confined spaces and heights without issue using proper safety protocols.
